He further said that in the history of Indian parliament a law was passed which has religion as a basis of separation, referring to the newly amended Citizenship Act. 

"Government said no decision on NRC-NPR has been taken till now. I challenge the PM to clarify that NPR and NRC are not the two sides of the same coin," Owaisi said.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor gave a passionate response over the current political climate in the country.

"Down this very slippery slop of history, no matter how many leaders from history you borrow or whose name you seek to hijack, you will be exposed and history will see you for what you really are," Dr. Tharoor said. 

"We want unity, you (BJP) want uniformity. We believe in India which unites its people, you seek to divide. We seek to promote consensus, you demand conformity," Tharoor said.

Shashi Tharoor, speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the president's address, pointed out that India, under the BJP government has the world record of the most number of internet shut downs, and also the longest such spell imposed on Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the government should rename its pet scheme 'Stand up India to Sit down India, Shut Up India, Stand down India'.

The Centre has, till now, not taken any decision to "prepare" a National Register of Indian Citizens at the national level, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said "Till now, the government has not taken any decision to prepare National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC) at the national level."

Raising his voice against BJP leader Anantkumar Hegde's remark about Mahatma Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "Today they (BJP) are cursing Mahatma Gandhi who used to worship Lord Ram. They are Raavan's descendants."

Union Minister of Parlaimentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said that BJP members are real 'bhakts' and ' followers of Mahatma Gandhi, calling the Congress members 'followers of Sonai Gandhi'. Following his statement, protests intensified.

Uproar in Lok Sabha

The opposition started sloganeering against the government over the CAA soon after the House assembled for the day at 11 a.m. and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla read the obituary of eight leaders, including Oman's Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, who passed away recently.

Even as the Speaker told the opposition members that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to speak on the issues they were raising, the members continued sloganeering.

Failing to calm down the agitated members of the opposition despite multiple attempts, Birla adjourned the House till 12 noon.

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha will continue the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address moved by controversial BJP MP Parvesh Verma. 

Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will also introduce the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which seeks to amend the British era Aircraft Act, 1934. 

On Monday, the Lok Sabha witnessed protests by Opposition members even as the Speaker turned down the adjournment notices given keeping in view the anti-CAA, NRC agitations and resultant violence all over the country.
