No intra-state movement in Maharashtra: Railways cancels all tickets, full refund to passengers

New Delhi: As Government of Maharashtra has decided to prohibit intra-state movement due to a rapid rise in the number of cases of Coronavirus, the Indian Railways has given orders to cancel all the train tickets of passengers travelling within the state.

A full refund will also be given to the passengers on the cancellation of tickets, without deducting any additional charges.

In an order of the Railway Board, it has been stated, "Maharashtra Government has informed Railways that inter-district travel is prohibited within the State of Maharashtra. It is, therefore, desired that tickets of all the passengers whose originating as well as terminating stations fall within the State of Maharashtra, be cancelled and a full refund be given without deduction of any cancellation or clerkage charges."

The Railway Board has ordered to send a message to the passengers, saying, "Due to restrictions imposed by Maharashtra Government for travel within the state of Maharashtra by train, your ticket has been cancelled and a full refund shall be given."

As the COVID-19 pandemic in India grew by record number, Maharashtra saw an explosion of infected cases, after reporting over 2,000 fresh cases for the fourth consecutive day.

The State government has also asked Railways that intra-state bookings should not be permitted till further orders.

Recently, Indian Railways has announced to run 200 non-ac timetabled trains on a daily basis, from June 1, for which online bookings have been started on the website of IRCTC. Earlier today, Union Railway Minister has informed that bookings for train tickets at Railway station counters will restart in the next 2-3 days, for which the ministry is developing a protocol.
