New Delhi: Despite being under the surveillance of tight security and CCTV cameras, Nirbhaya's convict Vinay attempted suicide by hanging himself in toilet of Tihar Jail.
Vinay's lawyer AP Singh also claimed that the incident took place on Wednesday morning. However, Tihar spokesperson IG Raj Kumar has denied the case.
Vinay was locked in a single room of jail number four. There is a curtain between his closet and the toilet. He tried to attempt the suicide between 9:00 to 10:00 am on Wednesday. He could not hang himself because the noose was at a height of 5 to 6 feet.
The four convicts in Nirbhaya gang rape case -- Vinay Sharma (26), Mukesh Kumar (32), Akshay Kumar Singh (31) and Pawan Gupta (25) -- are to be hanged on January 22 at 7 am in Tihar jail. A Delhi court had issued their death warrants on January 7.
