Kota: As many as nine infants have died in a span of 24 hours at JK Lon Hospital in Rajasthan, officials said on Thursday. The death of nine children at the government-run hospital have triggered criticism and a special team has been constituted upon the instructions of Hospital Supreidentant Dr ACC Dulara to probe the matter.
The District Collector has also sought a detailed report from the hospital authorities as to what caused the death of nine infants in a day.
The family members of the deceased children have alleged negligence on the part of hospital following which investigating team was formed.
Rajasthan Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma has sought a report from Principal of Medical College Hospital and JK Lon Hospital authorities.
Sharma said, "Out of nine kids, three infants were brought dead to the hospital. Other three children died of health complications and the rest died due to Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as Cot. The family of the children, who were brought dead to the hospital, were informed. The matter is being investigated and strict action will be taken against those found guilty."

Denying the allegations of the kin of the victims, Dulara said, "Four more children died in the evening and a total of nine infants have died. Three children were already brought dead to the hospital. Kids aged between one to seven days have died due to other health complications and we are looking into the matter. We also received the information that few infants were dead when they were with their mother, we are probing that as well."
According to information, JK Lon Hospital has 90-bed warmers and two children were kept on each, thereby increasing the chance of contraction of the deadly novel coronavirus.
South Kota BJP MLA Sandip Sharma also visited the hospital and instructed the hospital authorities to improve the facilities.
In 2019, a total of 963 kids died in the hospital and the death toll reached 100 in December. Last year, death of ten infants within 48 hours sparked a lot of controversy, prompting health authorities and then deputy CM Sachin Pilot to visit the hospital again and again.
