Need clearly defined, inclusive access strategy for COVID-19 vaccine: Rahul Gandhi

Amid a surge in number of coronavirus cases across the nation, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a tweet on Friday exhibited confidence in India's capability to produce a vaccine for coronavirus. However, he added that the country needs a vaccine access strategy that is inclusive and equitable in order to defeat the deadly virus.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that India will be one of the nations to produce a vaccine for coronavirus and the process will require a "clearly-defined" strategy.

He further said that the Centre will need a vaccine access strategy that is inclusive and equitable, ensuring availability, affordability and fair distribution.

"India will be one of the COVID-19 vaccine-producing nations. It needs a clearly-defined, inclusive & equitable vaccine access strategy ensuring availability, affordability & fair distribution. GOI must do it now," he tweeted.

The statement from the Congress leader came a day after he tweeted a graph showing country's upward-moving COVID-19 curve describing it as "frightening not flattening".

Meanwhile, India on Friday recorded 661595 active cases of coronavirus, however, 1751555 have been discharged and 48040 fatalities have been recorded.

On the other hand in one of his video series 'Conversation with Rahul Gandhi' held on July 31, Rahul Gandhi had called coronavirus pandemic as an "opportunity" to bring new imagination for rebuilding the structure of a nation.He also accused the Central Government of not injecting direct cash to the accounts of poor people during the COVID crisis.

Calling micro-entrepreneurs as the "biggest assets" of a country, Gandhi asserted over the need of rural economy, restructuring of education and healthcare system. He had also mentioned about Mahatma Gandhi's idea of the rural economy.
