National Technology Day: Companies use new age technologies to battle COVID-19

The National Technology Day marks the anniversary of Pokhran Nuclear Tests (Operation Shakti) of 1998 and also India’s progress in field of science and technology.

Hyderabad: Observed every year on May 11, National Technology Day acts as a reminder of India’s technological advancements. In the ongoing global crisis, WHO has received overwhelming pro-bono support from Indian based technology companies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 2 April, 30 of the world’s leading digital technology experts gathered in a virtual round table to help advance WHO’s collaborative response to COVID-19.

This pandemic has triggered an unprecedented demand for digital health technology solutions and has revealed successful solutions such as for population screening, tracking the infection, prioritizing the use and allocation of resources, and designing targeted responses.

To battle the coronavirus pandemic, Ministry of Electronics and IT developed Aarogya Setu, a mobile app to help citizens identify their risk of contracting COVID-19.

Large-scale, national efforts to utilize technology in support of remote learning, distance education and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic are emerging and evolving quickly.

Every year the Technology Development Board of India commemorates NTD by awarding individuals with National Award for their contribution to science and technology. Also, on the occasion of NTD engineering colleges across India conduct programmes to support scientific endeavours and promote interest amongst students.
