Zoo director Ajith Kulkarni said, “Our zoo has more than 1,500 animals and birds. About 20 to 25 lakh tourists visit the zoo every year. Hence, it is common to see plastic covers and items littered here and there in the zoo. Clearing the littered plastic items was a big task for our workers. Now with the introduction of this measure, the plastic menace has come under control.”
