New Delhi: Peace Party of India has moved the Supreme Court against the plea filed by Hindu priests who challenge the Places of Worship Act,1991, that provides for maintaining the religious character of a place as it existed prior to 15th August 1947.
The Peace Party, a Muslim body, is the second such organisation after Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind to move against the pending petition which is important in the light of disputed mosques in Kashi and Mathura.
Peace Party has prayed to the top court to not entertain the plea of the Hindu priests, not even issue notice seeking responses as it would create fear in the minds of the Muslims.
"If the present petition is entertained, it will open floodgates of litigation against countless mosques in the country, and the religious divide from which the country is recovering in the aftermath of the Ayodhya dispute will only be widened," says the Muslim body.
