New Delhi: Senior leader from Assam Bhubaneshwar Kalita on Friday said that the Bharat Ratna award to Bhupen Hazarika was a recognition "towards his contribution to art and music."
Bhupen Hazarika was conferred with Bharat Ratna Award posthumously on Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhawan which was received by his son Tej Hazarika.
"We are feeling very proud that Bhupen Hazarika has been conferred with the Bharat Ratna Award posthumously. Along with Assam, Bhupen Hazarika made India proud with his music," said Kalita.
He also said, "I congratulate the family members of Bhupen Hazarika for Bharat Ratna Award."
Kalita was in news for breaking his decade-long-association with Congress over Article 370.
Music Maestro Hazarika was known for his baritone voice and for creating versatile music including romantic, social and political commentary.
