New Delhi: The Congress on Monday criticized the Narendra Modi government, saying it was bringing in "disrepute" to the country, and held it responsible for the on-going unrest on account of the newly amended citizenship law.
"The unrest in the country is unfortunate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are responsible for it. They are bringing disrepute to the country," Congress senior leader Rashid Alvi told ETV Bharat here.
The Congress leader said Delhi Police that attacked the students inside the university campus entered there with orders from the Union Home Minister.
"No policemen could have entered the university without his permission," he asserted.
Alvi also criticized the police asking why did they have to use force to disperse students. "It was the police that was seen destroying vehicles and they are the ones who set buses on fire," he said, asking for an inquiry into the matter.

"I believe the government is responsible for all this mess," he added.
"Modi, you have ruined the country. Why Japan Prime Minister, who was to visit India, cancelled his visit," the Congress MP asked.
