New Delhi: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries and the Ministry of Women and Child Development have joined hands on Wednesday to work on two main objectives of the BJP-led NDA government - to promote organic farming and to uplift women - by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here.
Addressing the media jointly after the MoU was signed by the secretaries of the two ministries, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said the signing of the MoU was a "classic case" to promote two important causes that are very dear to Prime Minister Narendra Modi - doubling framers' income and uplifting the women.
Badal said National Organic Mela would be organised to promote healthy eating and healthy living in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Smriti Irani, Minister of Women and Child Development (WCD) said that women interested in organic farming would be promoted through this initiative of the two ministries.
"We are trying to support women associated with organic farming," she said.
Thanking Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal for joining hands with her ministry, Irani also said the MoU signing shows coordination among various departments of the government.
She said Prime Minister would always stress on coordination among various departments of the government for better results in solving problems taking the country forward.
