New Delhi: Senior military commanders of India and China held a fresh round of talks in Chushul with an aim to ensure expeditious disengagement of troops from all the friction points along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh on Monday.

It is the seventh round of Senior Commanders-level talks in nearly three months with an aim to defuse the border tensions triggered by a violent clash between the two militaries along the Line of Actual Control in the Western Sector of India-China border areas.

They were of the view that these discussions were positive, constructive and had enhanced understanding of each other’s positions. Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue and communication through military and diplomatic channels, and arrive at a mutually acceptable solution for disengagement as early as possible.

Also, both the countries agreed to earnestly implement the important understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, not to turn differences into disputes, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in the border areas.

The first round of the corps commander talks was held on June 6 during which both sides finalised an agreement to disengage gradually from all the standoff points beginning with Galwan Valley.

However, the situation deteriorated following the Galwan Valley clash on June 15 in which 20 Indian Army personnel were killed. The Chinese side also suffered casualties but it is yet to give out any details. According to an American intelligence report, the number of casualties on the Chinese side was 35.

Following the Galwan Valley incident, the government has given the armed forces 'full freedom' to give a 'befitting' response to any Chinese misadventure along the LAC.
