Gariyaband (Chhattisgarh): A migrant worker allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a quarantine centre in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district where he was kept after he returned from Hyderabad, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place on in the wee hours of Sunday under Devbogh police station limits, Gohrapadar Superintendent of Police Sukhanandan Rathore said.
The youth had returned from neighbouring Telangana state to his native place Gariaband a few days back. He was kept at a quarantine centre in his village for fourteen days as a precautionary measure, a cop said.
"Patients at the quarantine facility came to know about the incident today morning. The exact reason that prompted him to take the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered and further probe is underway," Rathore added.

The total tally of active cases in Chhattisgarh stands at 950 and the death toll is pegged at 4. In Gariaband district, as many as ten people have been tested positive out of which four people have been cured and discharged. With the spike in Covid-19 cases, the state health authorities have issued an advisory requesting people not to step out of their houses unless absolutely necessary.
