Srinagar: For the first time in the last 70 years, the government today organised a two day symposium on ‘Memories of 22 October 1947’ in Srinagar and the event was inaugurated by the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The events marked the day tribal militia from Pakistan administered Kashmir in Muzaffarabad raided Kashmir through north Kashmir's Baramulla district and led to the beginning of the first war between India and Pakistan.
Organised by the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology in collaboration with the JK Government at SKICC, the day will be conducted for two days during which photo and video exhibitions will be held.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Secretary Culture, Government of India, Raghvander Singh, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of National Museum Institute, said that the several academicians and historians will also speak during the two days event to inform the audience about the "true story" of 22 October 1947.
This is for the first time since 1947 that such an event is being organised at the government level in Kashmir.
Besides Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, advisor Baseer Khan spoke during the event which was attended by the top bureaucrats of the UT and in attendance were over 400 participants including youth from Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion LG Manoj Sinha said that the event marks a historical day in Kashmir as it will help in creating awareness among people and especially youth about the ill-designs of Pakistan on Kashmir.
"This day is a remembrance of the excesses and brutalities done by Pakistan and its army on the people of Kashmir. These events are important days during which people of Kashmir and youth, in general, will be informed about the sordid tales about the raids," Sinha said.
He said that Pakistan had not succeeded in its ill-designs nor will it ever succeed in Jammu and Kashmir despite so many conspiracies.
Sinha praised the role of Maqbool Sherwani and other people who had fought the tribal militia.
Advisor Baseer Khan said that Kashmiri people gave a befitting reply to the raiders from Pakistan.
"It was the efforts and bravery of the people of Kashmir and especially those in Baramulla who valiantly fought the tribal raiders," Khan said.
