Kannauj: Behind India's independence there are tales of wars, rebellions and movements which united the country regardless of anyone's age, creed, and gender.
Our forefathers struggled, fought and even sacrificed their lives in an effort to create India of their dreams. India which is free, thriving, enabling and ever-evolving.
On the auspicious occasion of India's 71st Republic day, let us know the story of 106-year-old freedom fighter hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj who played an important role during India's freedom movement.
Govardhan Lal Kanaujia still remember those days when he was part of various movements led by Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders, contributing in whichever way possible.
His deep wrinkles seem to carve a map of his life, telling stories of his patriotic spirit and zeal.
This freedom fighter decided to dedicate his life for the welfare of the nation, during 1929, when Gandhi was pursuing swaraj and participated in many movements led by him.
Such was his involvement that he was even sentenced to life imprisonment by the British government.
"I'm alive and at this age also I'm ready to do anything for my country. My body might 106 years old but my spirit is no less than a young boy," told Kanaujia to ETV Bharat.
