Mangaluru: Two children trapped under landslide debris found dead

Two children, who were trapped under the debris of the landslide were found dead in Mangaluru. Four houses were also damaged and the rescue operation lasted for hours.

Mangaluru: Two children were dead and four houses were damaged in a landslide in Karnataka's Mangaluru on Sunday. The incident reportedly happened in the afternoon at around 2 pm, triggering panic in the area.

As soon as the incident came to light, locals rushed to the accident spot and called the police for help. Cops swung into action and reached the spot along with rescue teams from two different locations.

"Two children, who were suspected to be caught under the debris, were found dead," said a local.

"Rescue teams from Kadri and Pandeshwar reached the spot as soon we received the information. The operation lasted for hours but children could not be saved," said Sunil Kumar, an official from the city.

Police informed that four houses were severely damaged and two children trapped under landslide debris were found dead.

"More houses in the area are on the verge of collapse and residents of the area have been shifted to safer places," they added.
