New Delhi: Just a day ahead of another round of talks between the government and farmer unions, the Congress party alleged the enactment of three farm laws is a conspiracy by the BJP Government to put an end to the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The party said that if the government wants to assure farmers about MSP then it should add this clause in the farm bills and pass it in the Parliament.
While addressing a press conference, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said, "The Government is saying to the farmers that MSP will be there and their land will be safe as well. But the question is, will these verbal assurances provide any legal shield to the farmers?"
"This is the trick of Modi Government that they give oral assurances to avoid its inclusion in the law. We demand that the Government should listen to the farmers and accept their demands. These demands should be a part of the law, which should be passed by the Parliament," he further added.
The Central Government has called 40 farmers organizations, which are protesting against the farm laws, on December 30 to hold the next round of talks. Earlier, several rounds of negotiations between the two parties were already been conducted but they remained wasteful as no solution was being found out.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar has also assured the farmers that if the talks, on Wednesday, failed then he will unite the UPA constituents to support their agitation against the farm laws.
When asked if Congress will be a part of it, Rajeev Shukla said, "We are supporting farmers Kisan agitation because they are raising a genuine demand and we are all with that. UPA government also helps the farmers we have never try to unnecessarily subvert these laws but it was government and its motives are altogether very dubious.
On Tuesday agriculture minister has given a statement where is said that they will talk about provisions but he has not given any commitment that the government is going to bring fresh loss incorporating those amendments which farmers are suggesting."
"Sharad Pawar has been a former Agriculture Minister and he has always raised the issues of farmers. Therefore, if talks fail opposition parties without getting directly involved will try to help the farmers and extend our support to them," he added.
On Tuesday, farmers' organizations have also sent a letter to the Center mentioning the agendas to be discussed in tomorrow's meeting, including the guarantee for MSP, changes in the draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2020.
