Nanded (Maharashtra): Instead of surrendering to their harsh fate, widows of three farmers in Maharashtra who committed suicide last year attended Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination.
When the bread-earner of a family commits suicide, their family members usually lose hope but instead Sunita Kadam and Lakshmi Sakhare from Ardhapur tehsil, and Mangala Ingole from Malegaon decided to fight their situation by empowering themselves with education.
They attended the SSC exam as external students by filling Form-17 and even have decided to continue their studies after appearing for SSC.
Praising their spirit to combat the sufferings, ZP High School principal Dr Shaikh said that in the past 40 years, this will be the first example where widows of farmers who committed suicide are giving the civil examination. The move will become also an inspiration for other women and girls of the society.
