Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress is alliance of opportunism, won't give Maharashtra stable govt: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that the probable alliance of the Shiv Sena, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is an alliance of opportunism and it will not be able to give Maharashtra a stable government.

On being asked about government formation in Maharashtra, Gadkari told a media agency, "There are ideological differences among NCP and Shiv Sena. This alliance in Maharashtra is not established on the basis of ideas and principles. This (Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress) is an alliance of opportunism, they will not be able to give Maharashtra a stable Government.

"This would result in a huge loss for Maharashtra. An unstable government would not be a good thing for the state. BJP and Shiv Sena alliance was based on the ideology of Hindutva and even today we don't have many ideological differences. Breaking of such an alliance is not only a loss to the country but also to Hindutva cause and to Maharashtra," he added.

Gadkari further asserted that Congress strongly opposes the views of Shiv Sena and its vice versa. There are ideological differences between the three parties.

After Cong, Sena to send its MLA's to Jaipur resort ahead of finalising modalities of 'Maha Vikas Aghadi'

The Sena leadership is likely to send its MLA's to a resort in Jaipur as it feels that the legislators should be kept together at a safe location until the new alliance stakes claim to form the government.

The party had yesterday sent out a message to its MLAs to come for the meeting on Friday with a change of clothes and identity documents such as Aadhaar card.

The Sena had also debated sending the legislators to neighbouring Goa or Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh but eventually settled for Rajasthan. The Congress party had earlier put up its 44 MLAs at a luxury resort in Jaipur.

Sanjay Raut takes veiled dig at BJP in a tweet

At what seemed to be a veiled attack at its former long-time ally Bharatiya Janta Party, senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut tweeted in Hindi, which loosely translates into, "Sometimes it is better to step out of a relationship. Not for the sake of one's ego, but for the sake of one's self-respect."

The tweet came a few days after a disgruntled Sanjay Raut took offence to his change of seat in the Rajya Sabha even as his party Shiv Sena continues to remain at loggerheads with BJP over the formation of government in Maharashtra.

Earlier, in a letter addressed to Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu, Raut wrote, "Astonished to know that my seating position in RS chamber is changed from 3rd to 5th row. This decision was taken by someone deliberately to hurt Shiv Sena's sentiments and suppress our voice."

Raut's letter comes amid a political impasse in Maharashtra, which is likely to culminate in an alliance between Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party, and Congress. Despite being the single largest party in the state, the BJP which won 105 seats was unable to stake a claim as its ally Shiv Sena maintained its demand for a rotating Chief Ministership.
