Defending the amended citizenship law, Amit Shah said, "I can name 25 laws based on religion. How can you say that a law has been made on the basis of a religion for the first time?"

"Delhi violence must be seen in the context of misinformation being spread about Citizenship Amendment Act. The Act is not against any minority," clarified Shah.

"The spread of riots on such a big scale in such a short time is not possible without a conspiracy. We have registered a case of conspiracy to probe this angle," added Shah.

Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences for all those who were affected and suffered in the unfortunate Delhi riots.

"I want to clarify that there were no incidents of riot after 11 pm on February 25 and we decided to hold discussions after Holi so that the situation remains stable during the time of festival," said Shah.

He also appreciated the efforts of Delhi police as they managed to control the riot from spreading.

She also presented data related to riots in India and said that 73 per cent of the riots, including 18 major riots, took place under the rule of Congress.

"One should know that the riot that took place in Gujarat in 2002 -which the opposition keeps mentioning about- was the last such riot," added Lekhi.

This will be the first time that the Union Home Minister would give an official statement on the violence that rocked the national capital from February 23 to February 26 in which at least 53 were people killed and more than 200 sustained injuries.

Shah has been criticised by the Opposition for not giving a statement on the issue and not visiting the riot-hit areas.

The victims of the violence have also accused the Delhi Police -- that reports to the Union Home Ministry -- of inaction when the riots were raging.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 12:30 pm after an uproar by the Opposition.

Some opposition members protested over the suspension of seven Congress MPs from the House last week "over gross misconduct".

BJP member Kirit Premjibhai Solanki took up the question hour but members of some opposition parties including Congress and DMK came to the well of the House. Congress members were raising the slogan "We want justice".

The House took up a few questions amid the din but the opposition members continued with their protests.

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha is scheduled to hold a short duration discussion on last month's communal violence in parts of Delhi in which at least 53 people were killed and more than 200 people sustained serious injuries.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi have given a notice for short on "Recent law and order situation in some parts of Delhi" in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Other MPs too will join the discussion.

The Opposition has been demanding a discussion on the Delhi violence since the beginning of the second leg of Budget Session on March 2 and disrupted Parliament over the issue. The government had agreed to hold the discussion after Holi.

The violence took place from February 23-26 in Delhi's north-east district.

On March 6, Lok Sabha was adjourned till March 11 after two bills that will replace ordinances were passed amid din in the House.
