Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the districts of Raigad and Palghar on Saturday, said Disaster Management, Thane District.

Flood situation improves in Uttar Pradesh

The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh improved further on Friday as the number of flood-affected villages came down, though one more district was declared flood-hit. 

"There are 18 districts affected by flood. In these districts 830 villages are flood affected and 477 are marooned," Relief Commissiosner, Sanjay Goel told reporters.

Till Thursday, there were 17 flood-hit districts, where 893 villages were affected, of which 562 were marooned.  

The 18 districts affected are Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Ballia, Barabanki, Basti, Deoria, Farrukhabad, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Kasganj, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mau, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjananpur and Sitapur.

Parts of UP get light rain, more likely on Saturday

 Light to moderate rain occurred at few places over eastern and at isolated places over western Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

The Met office here said heavy rain occurred at isolated places over western parts of the state while thunderstorm occurred at isolated places over the state.  

Bareilly received 11 cm rain followed by Etah (5), Atrauli (4), Karwi and Mahrauni (3 each), Attarra, Churk, Soraon, Chunar, and Jhansi (2 each).  

According to the Met office forecast for Saturday, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is very likely at isolated places over eastern part of the state while rain/thundershower is very likely at many places over western Uttar Pradesh.

9 killed as heavy rains lash Odisha

The death toll in flood-related incidents in the state rose to 9 as a 65-year-old man was killed due to wall collapse in Nuapada district of Odisha. 

The deceased has been identified as Trinath Bhoi of Bishibahal village of Michapali panchayat under Komna police limits.

In another case, a three-year-old boy of baliphokhari village of Jaipur district died due to wall collapsed. 

Nuapada district has been receiving incessant rainfall along with many other districts.

In rain, flood and wall collapse related incidents, four persons had died in Mayurbhanj district, two in Keonjhar and one person had died in Sundargarh district. 

Two persons are reportedly missing from Mayurbhanj and Bargarh in similar incidents, the Additional Chief Secretary-cum-SRC had said on Thursday.

Building collapses in Jajpur 

A two-storey building was completely submerged in the Brahmani river at Rasulpur block of Jajpur district in Odisha. Rasulpur is one of the most affected areas in the district.

No injuries were reported in the incident.  

However, all the houses were evacuated after the floodwaters receded.

Rains lash parts of Delhi

Rains lashed parts of the national capital on Friday, bringing respite from the humidity.

Parts of east Delhi, central Delhi, Barapullah flyover and Nizamuddin received rainfall.

The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 26.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average. The humidity was 77 per cent.

The weatherman has forecast generally cloudy skies with the possibility of moderate rain towards evening. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 36 degrees Celsius.

Locals and administration on high alert after crops and kaccha houses were damaged due to landslide in Rajouri district's mountain areas following heavy rainfall.

The water level of the Yamuna in Delhi rose to 204.30 meters on Friday morning, precariously close to the warning mark of 204.50 meters, officials said.

"The water level was recorded at 204.30 meters at the Old Railway Bridge at9 am. It was 203.77 metres at 10 am on Thursday," an official of the irrigation and flood control department said.

The water level rose because more water was released from the Hathnikund barrage on Tuesday. The flow rate was36,557 cusec at 5 pm on Tuesday, the highest in the last three days, he said.

The water discharged from the barrage which provides drinking water to Delhi normally takes two-three days to reach the capital.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter on Thursday rescued 7 people, 34 hours after they got stranded between two streams of Ujh river in Kathua district.

"In a swift daring rescue ops by #Jammu based MI-17 heptr & #Garud Commandoes @IAF_MCC today evng amid incessant rains rescued 7 pers incl 3 women & 3 children stranded on a marooned island inside overflowing river #Ujh south of Dhaloti, #Kathua," PRO Defence Jammu said in a tweet.

Heavy rains lash Kolkata, coastal districts; 1 missing

Heavy rains lashed Kolkata and the coastal districts of West Bengal on Thursday, inundating low-lying areas, officials said.

Several thoroughfares were waterlogged in different parts of Kolkata, including BT Road, Central Avenue, College Street, Amherst Street and EM Bypass, due to the showers that began on Wednesday evening, the weather office said.

However, there were no traffic snarls in the metropolis as COVID-related restrictions were in place but those who went out on essential work or are associated with
emergency services had a tough time reaching their destinations.

Many low-lying areas in Ghatal in West Midnapore district and Khanakul in Hooghly, and some places in South 24 Parganas district were submerged owing to the heavy overnight rains.

A person went missing in the Jhargram district after his motorcycle was swept away by strong currents of a river that submerged a bridge, officials said.

Bhopal: Rains started lashing parts of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, especially its eastern districts, including Chattarpur, where a 75-year-old man lost his life
after his house collapsed in the early hours following downpour, officials said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert stating that extremely heavy rainfall is very likely in four districts of eastern Madhya Pradesh- Balaghat,
Tikamgarh, Damoh and Sagar till Friday morning.
