Gujarat coronavirus cases cross 22,000-mark; 38 more die

The coronavirus count in Gujarat rose to 22,067 on Thursday with the addition of 513 new cases in the last 24 hours, while the toll increased to 1,385 with the death of 38 more patients, the state health department said.

A health department release said 366 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 15,109 in the state.

The state has 5,573 active COVID-19 cases, of which 61 patients are on ventilator, it said.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 22,067, new cases 513, deaths 1,385, discharged 15,109, active cases 5,573, people tested so far 2,72,924.

3,607 new coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, 152 deaths

As many as 3,607 new coronavirus patients were reported in Maharashtra on Thursday, taking the tally of cases to 97,648, said a state health official.

The number of deaths due to the pandemic rose to 3,590 with 152 fatalities recorded. Hospitals in the state also discharged 1,561 patients, taking the number of recovered coronavirus patients to 46,078, the official said.

Haryana reports 12 COVID-19 deaths, total coronavirus cases rise to 5,968

 Haryana reported 12 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, the worst single-day toll in the state due to the virus, as total infections neared 6,000.

The hardest-hit Gurgaon reported 6 deaths, Faridabad 4 and Ambala and Rohtak reported 1 death each, according to a state health department bulletin. On Monday, Haryana reported 11 coronavirus deaths.

Five accused test positive for COVID-19; 17 cops quarantined

Five accused who were arrested for robbery in suburban Kurla here have tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Thursday.

Following the detection, 17 police personnel from Nehru Nagar police station, including three officers who were involved in arresting the accused, have been quarantined, the official said.

67 fresh COVID-19 cases in J-K, infection tally rises to 4,574

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday registered 67 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the infection tally in the union territory to 4,574, officials said.  "Sixty-seven new positive cases of coronavirus were detected in the union territory on Thursday," one of the officials said. They said while 24 of these cases are from Jammu, 43 are from the Kashmir region.

The UT has witnessed 52 COVID-19 related deaths so far.

Tamil Nadu reports close to 2,000 fresh virus cases for second successive day, 23 more deaths

Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 1,875 fresh coronavirus cases and 23 deaths, taking the tally to 38,716 and fatalities to 349, the government said. The number of people discharged today alone was 1,372, which is the highest single day recovery and cumulatively, 20,705 people have overcome the virus trigerred illness.

Of the 1,800 plus new positive cases, Chennai's share was 1,407, neighbouring Chengelpet 127 and 26 were returnees from other states and 10 from abroad.

Five health workers are among the 83 people who tested positive for coronavirus in Kerala while one more death was reported on Thursday, taking the state's infection count to 2,224 and the toll to 18. A total of 62 people recovered from the disease.

20 new COVID-19 cases found in Dharavi; tally nears 2,000-mark

The tally of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi rose to 1,984 on Thursday with the addition of 20 new cases, the city civic body said.

A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said the toll in Dharavi increased to 75 from 73 as two old deaths due to COVID-19 were added to the fatality count on Thursday.

He said as 995 of the total COVID-19 patients have already been discharged, the number of active cases stood at 914.

India is not in community transmission: ICMR

There is no community transmission of COVID-19 in the country according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday. Professor (Dr) Balram Bhargava, DG, ICMR, at a press conference in New Delhi said that the prevalence of the infection is at less than one per cent in the small districts, while it is just over one per cent in the urban areas. 

"India is such a large country and prevalence is very low that we have found that prevalence is less than one per cent in the small districts, in the urban areas it might be a little over one per cent and slightly higher in containment areas. India is not in community transmission," Bhargava said.

He, however, added that the country needs to continue with the strategy of testing, tracing, tracking, and quarantine and continue containment measures as they have been successful so far.

More recovered COVID-19 cases than active cases in the country currently, recovery rate 49.21 pc

There are more patients who have recovered from COVID-19 in the country than active cases currently, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary, MoHFW also said that the recovery rate in the country currently stands at 49.21 percent during a press conference.

"Today, our recovery rate is 49.21 per cent. The number of patients recovered presently exceeds the number of active patients," Agarwal said. 

As of Thursday, there are 1,37,448 active cases while 1,41,028 patients have been cured and discharged in the country. Meanwhile, 8,102 deaths have also been reported due to the infection so far.

At least 31 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur, taking the state's total tally to 342, officials said on Thursday. Of the 31 fresh cases, 13 each are from Imphal West district and Tamenglong, two each from Kakching and Ukhrul district and one from Bishenpur district, a statement issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room here said.
The control room, in its statement, asked people not to stigmatise or discriminate against people who have recovered from the disease.

5 employees of AIIMS Bhubaneswar test positive for COVID-19

Five employees of AIIMS Bhubaneswar have tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital stated on Thursday.

"All of them are admitted in COVID-19 Ward of AIIMS and are stable. Their hospital contacts are being tested as per guidelines," AIIMS Bhubaneswar stated.

One case was reported on June 3, while the other four cases were reported on June 9.

Till date, more than 250 employees of the hospital have been tested for COVID-19 and all others have tested negative.

COVID-19: India records highest single-day spike of 9,996 cases, deaths at 357

India recorded the highest single-day spike of 9,996 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 2,86,579, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With as many as 357 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 8,102.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,37,448 are active, while 1,41,029 have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 94,041 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (36,841) and Delhi (32,810).

According to the data, the death toll has increased to 163.

"41 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Indore district on June 10, taking the total number of positive cases to 3922. The death toll increased to 163 after two deaths were reported on June 10," Chief Medical and Health Officer, Indore said.

A total of 27 people have been discharged after treatment on Wednesday, taking the total number of discharged patients to 2618, said Chief Medical and Health Officer, Indore.
