Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government would approach the Supreme Court in connection with Vadakancherry Life Mission case. An appeal would be filed in the Supreme Court against the High Court's decision to continue the CBI probe.
The decision came after the government received legal advice that it could not approach the division bench against the single bench verdict in the criminal petition.
The government has been in contact with senior lawyers in this regard. The High Court had rejected the pleas of Life Mission and Unitak to quash the CBI probe in the case and directed the CBI to continue the probe. The High Court had found that there was a prima facie error in the procedure of the project and had directed the CBI to proceed with the investigation.
''Life Mission'', a state housing project envisaged total housing for the homeless. The case pertains to spending the foreign fund against the purpose for which it was aimed. Congress MLA Anil Akkara had filed a complaint to the CBI alleging that various middlemen including state representatives and government officials received Rs 4.5 crores as commission.
The central agency had filed an FIR in the High Court here under Section 120 B of the IPC and Section 35 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 on a complaint by Congress MLA Anil Akkara, listing Santosh Eappen, Managing Director of Unitac Builder, as the first accused and Sane Ventures as the second accused.
