Chandigarh (Punjab): In an effort to spread awareness about Covid-19 among children, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has coined a unique idea.
The Department has issued a comic book that provides information about Covid-19 and how kids can remain safe. A graphic novel for children, named "Kids, Vaayu and Corona" has been designed by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research and Punjab University, Chandigarh, which will be published in 21 languages.
In this comic, Vaayu has been portrayed as a 'superhero' whose job is to educate the children about Covid-19 so that kids can fight it.
Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health is the author of the comic and school children have also extended their support for the content, graphic and design for this comic.
While talking to ETV Bharat, Ravindra Khaiwal said, "Children below 14 years of age need information on such topics but at times, they fail to get it from reliable sources. Our concern was to address the kids and we came up with this initiative. Interestingly, not only kids but adults are also loving our work. After reading this comic, we have received positive feedback that how one should deal with this pandemic.

When asked about Government's consent for this graphic comic, Khaiwal said, "Our comic was launched by the Ministry of Health and PMO also tweeted about this. Very soon, this comic will be published in 21 languages and CBSE has also decided to upload our comic on its website to spread awareness".
Khaiwal went on to add, "Our University has created this comic to make children aware of this threat in an easy and comprehensive manner. The comic is created so that kids learn about coronavirus with fun and they should be motivated to be a hero of prevention by defeating Covid-19.
Discussing about 'Kids, Vaayu & Corona', Lakshya Khaiwal said, "My friends used to discuss Covid-19 in my class. They were worried about this deadly infection following which the idea of making this comic popped up in my mind. My father (Ravindra Khaiwal) was already working on it, so I decided to help with the storyline. I have also worked on the editing part".
