New Delhi: Citing a lack of representation of ex-servicemen in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the union of retired army personnel today has urged PM Modi to increase the number of seats for the army personnel.
Addressing a press conference at New Delhi, Kernal Satpal Singh said, "I urge Prime Minister Modi to provide 5 per cent reservation to the army personnel." He further compared the representation of army personnel in Indian politics to the US and Israel.
Kernal further maintained that if our increases in both the houses, it will boost the security system of the country.
As per the latest data, the Indian Armed Forces had a reported strength of 1.4 million active personnel and 2.1 million reserve personnel, but, in terms of representation of defence personnel in the political system, it is only one in the Rajya Sabha and four in the Lok sabha.
