SSLC, VHSE exams commence in Kerala, students follow health norms

Secondary School Leaving Certificate(SSLC) and vocational higher secondary education(VHSE) examination resumed in Kerala on Tuesday under the guidelines issued by the state government to conduct the examinations in a safe manner.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala):Amid relaxation of Covid-19 lockdown, Secondary School Leaving Certificate(SSLC) and vocational higher secondary education(VHSE) examination commenced in Kerala on Tuesday under the guidelines issued by the state government to conduct the examinations in a safe manner. Around 13 lakh students are expected to appear for the examinations today.

Hand sanitizers were also provided at the centres and wearing face masks was made mandatory for all the students.

Students at VHSS Manacaud High School in Thiruvananthapuram were encouraged to follow social distancing norms while they also underwent thermal screening before entering the examination centre.

While VHSE is scheduled in the morning, the SSLC exam is held in the afternoon session. Senior secondary exams are scheduled to begin in the state from May 27.

VHSE and SSLC exams has commenced today from 9.30 am and higher secondary exams will begin from May 25.

Two days before exams, the schools in Kerala's Wayanad district were sanitised as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus.

Kerala education minister Professor C Raveendranath had earlier stated that the Education Department made all arrangements to bring schools back to normalcy. He said that schools were sanitized with the help of local bodies, people's representatives, and the Parent Teachers Association.

T Sheela, District Education Officer said, "Every school has been sanitized with the help of officers. We arranged masks and sanitizers for students and they were couriered to students' home. Lit of guidelines to be followed were also conveyed to them".

"We also arranged sanitizers, masks and thermal scanners for the students. Distribution is underway. We have also maintained a track of the students travelling in and out of the district", the officer added.

Raveendranath had also informed that facilities like sanitization of the schools, thermal scanning were done as per the directions of the Union Health Department to make students feel that they are at their homes.

Kerala government had earlier announced that SSLC, higher secondary and VHSE exams to be conducted between May 26 to May 31.(With inputs from ANI)
