New Delhi: P K Kunhalikkutty, MP, Kerala's Malappuram Lok Sabha seat on Sunday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct state governments to isolate and quarantine migrants who are way back their natives before reaching their houses.

The corona virus-pushed lock down witnessed thousands of migrant labours gathered at Anand Vihar ISBT to reach their respective places in neighbouring UP.

According to Kunhalikkutty, videos coming from Anand Vihar Bus terminal at Delhi UP border witness there is a massive, forced exodus of poor, helpless migrant labourers are happening even on the fourth day of lock down of the country.

"It was essential to take such drastic decision and action when we have a crisis like corona pandemic which is unprecedented. However this exodus is going to defeat the very purpose of lock down as it was aimed for complete social distancing thereby stopping further community spread of the virus," the IUML leader said in letter to PM.

Kunhalikkutty further alarmed when these thousands of people from cities like Delhi and Mumbai, where Corona positive cases and deaths have already reported, reach their respective villages spread across states like UP, Utharakhand, Bihar and Haryana, the rural India will be completely infected by the virus.

"Such a situation and it's aftermath will be unimaginable and uncontrollable. I would request you to take all necessary steps to initiate with respective state governments to detain and quarantine these citizens at their arrival points without letting them to go to their homes or villages," the legislator stressed.

He was adding that isolating the migrant labours before they reach their houses is the only option to stop the spread of virus to rural India and to effectively make use of already declared country wide lock down.

"We may seek help from all states and other authorities and may follow quarantine protocol practiced by various countries and states," Kunhalikkutty added.
