Karnataka villagers stranded on road as flood wipes out their land

Several villages in Karnataka's Gadag district have been submerged under floodwater, rendering hundreds of its residents homeless. The people are stranded on the streets and are surviving on whatever little relief material and food is being provided to them by some generous donors.

Gadag (Karnataka): Most of the villages of Gadag district has been wiped out as flood water from Malaprabha river flood in Karnataka caused widespread damage to life and properties.

According to reports, the villagers cannot reach their homes as bridge and road connectivity to their village reportedly suffered irreparable damage due to floods and the place remains isolated from mainland.

The residents of the region are living on the roads with the relief materials provided to them by generous donors.

Besides, the district administration reportedly has not taken any steps to ensure rehabilitation of those displaced due to recent floods.

An official release has said the death toll has risen to over 40 as several regions in coastal and central Karnataka face the worst calamity in almost half a century.

According to officials reports, As many as 3.14 lakh people have been evacuated and of them 2.18 lakh people are staying in 924 relief camps.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conduced an aerial survey of flood affected areas in Belagavi district and Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa joined him in the exercise.

The world heritage site Hampi along the banks of Tungabhadra River had been inundated with flood water, after over 1.70 lakh cusecs of water was released from a reservoir.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had said the preliminary estimate of flood-related loss in the state was Rs 10,000 crore even as he urged the Centre to release Rs 3,000 crore as immediate aid.

Gadag: Most of the villages of Gadag district washed away by Malaprabha river flood. Lakamapura villagers of Naragunda taluk lost have lost contact to their village. The bridge and road which connects to their village completely damaged. Thus they are leading life on the roads.



Villagers sitting in a queue in the road and eating food provided by the donors. They are filling their stomach eating Chapati and chutney given by donors. But Gadag district administration not yet paying attention towards build temporary sheds.
