Belgaum (Karnataka): A village in Karnataka’s Belgaum district remains shut for five days a month following the village deity’s “advise” to keep coronavirus infection at bay.
Kankanavadi village in Chikkodi taluk calls of all commercial activities on the first three Mondays and first two Fridays of a month after they were “advised” to do so by their village deity God Halasidda.

As per the residents of this remote village, God Halasidda warned the villagers that they run the risk of getting infected by the coronavirus disease on Mondays and Fridays which is why they need to shut the village on these particular days to remain indoors and avoid contracting or spreading the virus.
151 new coronavirus cases were reported as of 8:00 AM on May 20 in Karnataka, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Karnataka to 1,397. Among the total people infected as on date, 544 have recovered and 40 have passed away.
