Belagavi: The coronavirus-induced lockdown has proved that there is no dearth of creative talents if one has the will power, grit and determination to excel. Students from across the nation have shown their innovative talents during the lockdown.

One such example is Ansh Rao from Belagavi Jadhav Nagar, a student of Std 10th has designed a two-seater electric car with the help of Google and YouTube. The idea to design his own car was touting in Rao's head ever since he was a child but his dreams came out with flying colours during the lockdown.

Effectively utilising his one month time, Ansh Rao saw a lot of car-making videos on social media platforms and collected information about it.

Ansh Rao said, "The electric car designed by me does not have an engine and it completely runds on battery. It can run at a maximum speed of 50 to 60 kmph. The battery needs four hours to charge and I thank my father for supporting me financially and mentally."

Earlier refusing his son to give any money for his car, Rao's father Vinayak Rao finally agreed to give him Rs 10,000 for his dream project. Ansh got the financial aid from his father when the latter saw his son putting efforts to assemble waste materials to manufacture the vehicle. Vinayak's friend also helped Ansh by lending out his factory space to him.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Ansh's father Vinayak Rao said, "I am happy seeing my son's achievement and his school Principal also appreciated his work. Initially, we did not believe that he would be able to do it and when he started working on it and gave it a shape, we started trusting him. He worked till late night and has put in a lot of hard work."

Ansh took old tires, door, bonnet, auto tires and assembled the different parts of the car by welding. The designed car has unique features like reverse and front camera. What makes the car outshine is that it does not have an engine and gear and can run automatically.

The car runs on a 12-watt battery and can run for up to 70 km on a four-hour charge. The estimated cost of the car is around Rs 1.20 lakh and will be launched in the market in two weeks.
