Bengaluru: A Karnataka based doctor has invented a low-cost ventilator in Australia. It will help in the treatment of COVID-19 infected people.
Dr Kiran Shekhar, originally from Somavarapete, Kodagu district, is currently working as a Researcher and Senior Specialist in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Prince Charles Hospital, Australia.
The ventilator was prepared by Dr Kiran Shekhar and a team of engineers. The ventilator helps in artificial respiration for the corona infected patients.
The ventilator is called "OZ wader". It is 10 times cheaper than the ventilators available in the market.
It was produced in association with the Bristen based company Olitic, Faculty of Medical Engineering Research (MERF), Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
This ventilator has helped save the lives of millions of poor people, says Kiran.
Currently in India, the Hinduja group's Ashok Leyland, Mahindra and Mahindra, Indian Railways are in the process of making low-cost ventilators. These are expected to come to market next year.
