Dehradun: As the Kargil war will complete its 20 years on 26 July 2019, family of soldier Parveen Thapa is seeking justice for their martyr son whose sacrifice did not get recognition of martyrdom from the government, till date.
During the early days of Kargil war, Parveen Thapa was killed in an encounter with terrorists while patrolling at night in the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir. This sacrifice of Thapa is struggling to get its identity.
Born on October 4, 1977, in Santorgarh area of Uttrakhand's Dehradun, Parveen Thapa was passionate for his love for motherland since his childhood days. He even got recruited in the Army at the age of 17 on August 20, 1995.
Following the news of his son's demise, Parveen's mother also died in grief a few days later.
Speaking exclusively with ETV Bharat, Parveen's father Tikaram Thapa said that he was against Parveen's wish to join the Army and wanted him to support the family financially.
After serving for 3 years in the Army, Parveen was stationed as Rifleman in Kupwara in 2/8 Gorkha Rifle regiment on September 11, 1998.
After Parveen's sacrifice, his brother Vinod also joined the Army.
Even after losing his son in the war, Tikaram is extremely proud of his sons as they have served the nation with complete devotion towards their motherland but on the other hand, he is deeply hurt with government's negligence over not giving his son the status of martyr.
Parveen's family made immense efforts to reach to officials but each time they were only given false hope.
However, Parveen's family has raised questions against the administration following their loss by both destiny and policy. His family wants the government to evaluate Parveen's sacrifice through the same validation maintained for the martyrs of the Kargil war.
