New Delhi: AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal has asked the party leaders and workers to take urgent measures to distribute food and medicines to the people who find difficulties during the lockdown period.
In a circular issued to all the party members, KC Venugopal said, "In this critical time, it is incumbent upon us to ensure the availability of food and medicines to the people who will find difficulties during the lockdown. In this regard, all PCCs are requested to take urgent measures to distribute food and medicine kids to the deprived people from the state level to block-level on behalf of the Indian National Congress."
He also asked the party members to practice social distancing. "The distribution of food kids should adhere to the social distance protocols as demanded by the health experts. Huge gatherings should be avoided at any cost."
Venugopal suggested forming a group of party workers and leaders to coordinate the scheme, while social media platforms will be given the responsibility of identifying the people in need.
While mentioning the request of Sonia Gandhi, KC Venugopal said, "To cope with this hard time, Congress president desires that the party lawmakers including Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs should take serious and sincere initiatives to make contributions from their MPLAD funds in the respective constituencies and states to equip the hospitals as well as health centres to address the current prices of COVID 19 transmission."
Meanwhile, Venugopal slammed the Union as well as state governments for not having "proper preparatory protocols." The Congress general secretary said "Despite the fact that such a strict measure was the need of the hour, the hasty implementation without any proper preparatory protocols has created chaos in terms of logistic movement of essential supplies across the country. The lack of proper management in the ground has created hurdles for inter-state movement of essential commodities even via e-commerce platforms."
