Asansol: Jitendra Tiwari, chairman of the administrative board of Asansol Municipality has criticised West Bengal Minister over the development of the Municipality. The letter was sent to Minister of Urban Development Firhad Hakim.

Tiwari alleged that the state government deprived the Municipality of Central government's smart city project amounting to Rs 2,000 crore. Asansol Municipality was not nominated by the state for political reasons, Tiwari stated.

Asansol was nominated for the project on the merits of the councillors and municipal staff of Asansol Municipality. But the state did not nominate Asansol for the benefit of the project for political reasons. However, Jitendra Tewari did not mention political reasons.

He also stated that Firhad Hakim's department did not allow the Municipality to avail the benefits of the Central Government's solid waste management project. The city would have received Rs 1,500 crores for the project.

"Also it is to be mentioned that Asansol Municipal Corporation has sent several project reports for approval to the State Government like the building of Prince Dwaraknath Town Hall in Raniganj; renovation of existing Town Hall in Jamuria; several roads of Asansol, Burnpur, Kulti, Jamuria, and RanIganj but none of the same has been approved by your department," stated Tiwari in the letter.

In further development of the incident, Amit Malviya also tweeted, "Asansol Mayor and TMC MLA Jitendra Tiwari openly accuses Mamata Banerjee’s government of depriving Asansol of central funds and impeding its development as a Smart City. He also calls out Pishi for false promises and unfulfilled projects."

"When I said that Asansol has been deprived by Mamta Banerjee, it always sounded like a political accusation. While we remain fierce political rivals, I am happy Mayor Jitendra Asansol could ultimately garner the courage to spell out the truth" tweeted Babul Supriyo.
