Jaitley rebukes Mayawati's 'personal attack' on PM

Union Minister Arun Jaitley hit out at the opposition after BSP chief Mayawati launched a personal attack on PM Modi over Alwar gangrape case.

New Delhi: Minutes after BSP chief Mayawati launched a scathing personal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Arun Jaitley lashed out at the opposition saying Mayawati has 'stooped to an all-time low' and that 'democracy has become a casualty' in Bengal under Mamata Banerjee.

Taking to twitter, Jaitley wrote, "This is what India’s Opposition has to offer to the Nation. Mamata Didi – Democracy has become a casualty in Bengal. Opposition workers are murdered, candidates are attacked, polling booths are captured and opposition leaders are not entitled to organise rallies."

Earlier in the day, Mayawati took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Alwar gangrape case, saying that the latter does not know how to respect women as he 'left his own wife for political gains'.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Mayawati said, "Narendra Modi was silent on the Alwar gangrape case. He is trying to play dirty politics over it so that his party can benefit in the elections. It is extremely shameful. How can he respect women when he has left his own wife for political gains."
