New Delhi: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is all set to replicate Northeast success model in Jammu and Kashmir. It has decided to setup an Apple and Strawberry Food Park there.
"We will set up Apple and Strawberry food park in Jammu and Kashmir. This will be on the lines of Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Mizoram," DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh told ETV Bharat here.
He said Apple and Strawberry from the food park will then be exported to the countries across the world. The decision to this effect was taken after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation the erstwhile into two Union Territories last month.
DoNER Ministry has set up "Centre of Excellence" for Citrus Fruits in Mizoram in collaboration with the Government of Israel. The CoE provides planting material and training to farmers. Singh said both northeast and Jammu Kashmir share topographical and geographical similarities.
" A well-established connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir could be an added advantage for the region," he added. The minister also informed about plans of his ministry to establish a cold desert centre in Ladakh. "With its distinct features, Ladakh has vast potential," he said.
Workshops concerning the planned work would also be held in the region after some time. Narendra Modi government, in last 100 days, have sanctioned 110 projects worth Rs. 1699.69 crore for development of the Northeast region of the country.
