New Delhi: The Minister of State, Home, G Kishan Reddy on Thursday announced that the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) will get two helicopters on lease to effectively work in remote areas.
Addressing the ITBP soldiers on the force's 58th raising day, Reddy said that it was a long pending demand of the force and the government would do everything possible to keep the force in good shape.
"It was a long pending demand of the ITBP to have helicopters to reach remote and hilly areas," he said while addressing the ITBP.
Generally, Union Home Minister addresses forces on such occasions but Amit Shah had to call off today's engagement with the ITBP because of the Haryana election results, where BJP was not getting the number of seats it was expected to.
Reddy also said that the government has given more high powered SUVs to the ITBP and induction of these vehicles was on.
"In the past 4 years, besides special purchase as BOP vehicles, we have given the force many high powered vehicles and other equipment under modernization plan II and respectively, many such vehicles have been purchased for the force at a cost of approximately 50 Crore rupees. This has changed the face of the transport wing of ITBP," Reddy said.
The Minister claimed that the Home Ministry has taken many initiatives to modernize the force.
Reddy, on the occasion, also praised the ITBP for its services to the nation.
