Indian envoy visits Afghanistan; holds talk on peace and stability

The Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar met the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah and held deliberations on a host of issues, including strengthening of bilateral cooperation, bringing peace and stability in the militancy-hit country, and the upcoming presidential elections in Afghanistan.

New Delhi: The Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar met the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah in Kabul and held talks on enhancing cooperation between the two countries and maintaining peace in the militancy-hit country.

The two leaders held deliberations on a host of issues, including strengthening of bilateral cooperation, dialogue, and the upcoming presidential elections in Afghanistan. But, talks on peace and stability in the country dominated the meet.

With the growing claws of resurrected Taliban in Afghanistan, both sides consulted closely on the evolving situation in the country.

Stability in Afghanistan is of strategic importance for India's entry into Eurasia, and with the Taliban's flourishing so close to the Indian territory doesn't favour its plan.

Three days ago, during Chinese Special Envoy Ambassador Deng Xijun visit to India, both the countries had agreed to work closely on the ongoing efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Earlier this year, India had signed 11 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Afghanistan for 26 projects worth 9.5 million dollars. These projects include the construction of classrooms, the building of orphanages, health clinics, canal protection walls and enhancing economic opportunities for women. These projects will be developed in 7 provinces of Afghanistan-- Balkh, Ghor, Herat, Kabul, Bamyan, Badghis and Kapisa.

Since 2001, India has undertaken projects worth over $2 billion in Afghanistan.

Enhancing its bid that direction, Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar held talks with the Chief Executive Dr Abdullah on number of issues today. The meeting took place in Kabul. Afghanistan is strategically placed China's Special Envoy Dang Xijun held talks with Indian officials on the same issue, growing claws of resurrected Taliban is the centre of diplomatic discussion in South and Central Asian countries neighbouring its border.


Body:Apart from that, both sides also discussed about enhancing bilateral cooperation and upcoming Presidential elections in Afghanistan in September, 2019. But talks on peace and stability remained at the centre of dialogues between both country's officials. Peace and stability in Afghanistan is a matter of utmost concern for regional powers as Trump administration is not keen on keeping its remaining troops in the country. Regarding this, Chinese Special Envoy Ambassador Dang Xijun met with Indian officials on Saturday.


Conclusion:Both sides consulted closely on the evolving situation in Afghanistan and carry forward the decision taken by the leadership of the two countries on joint cooperation in Afghanistan. Stability in Afghanistan is of strategic necessity for India's entry into Eurasia. In this, radical Taliban's growth so close to Indian terrority doesn't favour its plan.
