India writes to Pak for repatriation of Indian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan

MEA has sent a 'note verbale' to Pakistan High Commission on the release and repatriation of Indian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan. According to sources, India also requested repatriation of 385 fishermen languishing in Pak jails.

New Delhi: Indian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday has sent a 'note verbale' to the Pakistan High Commission on the release and repatriation of Indian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan.

According to MEA sources, the Ministry conveyed its deep concern over the long pending release and repatriation of Indian prisoners held under Pakistan custody, despite the completion of sentence and confirmation of nationality.

The esteemed High Commission has also requested to make immediate necessary arrangements for the immediate release and repatriation of 10 Indian civilian prisoners lodged in Pakistan jails, who have already completed their sentence.

India also requested repatriation of fishermen languishing in Pak jails, sources revealed.

MEA Sources: Pakistan High Commission is requested to make immediate necessary arrangements for immediate release&repatriation of 10 Indian civilian prisoners lodged in Pakistan jails who've already completed their sentence & whose nationality has been confirmed & conveyed to Pak



MEA Sources: Further, there are 5 Indian prisoners & 385 Indian fishermen lodged in Pakistan jails who have been confirmed to be Indian nationals. It is requested that necessary arrangements may be made for their early release and repatriation.
