New Delhi: Claiming that things will not normalise between India and Pakistan until both nations decide to hold bilateral talks, veteran journalist and ORF's distinguished fellow Nandan Unnikrishnan rebuked the idea that any major breakthrough would take place at the upcoming Foreign Ministers' SCO summit in Kyrgystan, which will be attended by Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Unnikrishnan said, "Don't expect any dramatic results from the SCO summit. I don't see any kind of confrontation to take place, and neither do I see any kind of solution to take place between both the countries."
Elaborating on his point, he added, "In the past, both the countries had made it clear that issues between them should be resolved bilaterally. They don't have any third party engagements."
The distinguished Fellow called the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation an excellent platform for member nations to discuss the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, post the Trump administration's adamant stand to withdraw troops from the country. "All member nations in the SCO are neighbours of Afghanistan. It has Afghanistan in it as well. So, what better platform than this to discuss about it," he said.
