New Delhi: In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Former Director-General of ICMR Dr Nirmal Kumar Ganguly said that main focus of India's containment against Covid -19 will be the assessment of hotspots and sanitizing the adjoining areas. He said that to some extent, community transmission has started in India and to contain the spread of the virus, efficient testing on a significant scale is needed. Recently, ICMR has imported serology testing kits for surveillance.

To fight against Covid-19, a surveillance Centre should be set up and a good sample size must be taken for testing. Padma Bhushan Ganguly said that testing in old-age homes, juvenile homes, urban slums must be carried on a large scale to stop the spread of Covid-19. When asked about plasma treatment, Dr Ganguly said that it is needed only in critical condition. India needs to strengthen surveillance, penetration and scientific data to combat against this pandemic.
