Hyderabad(Telangana): Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said that India is proud to be the world's second-largest producer of fisheries but at the same time also expressed his concern over the low investment in fisheries. He attended the inauguration ceremony of 'Aqua-Aquaria India' exhibition in Telangana's Hyderabad on Friday.
He said, "We need to invest in diversified aquaculture species and establishment of aquaculture estates, feed mills and ancillary industries".
He also explained the changing food habits of people and the requirement of the growth of seafood products.
Besides this, he appreciated the initiative of this event by saying that this event can help to give a renew the sector by implementing new ideas and at the same time it can be helpful for the sustainable development of Aquaculture.
On the other hand, Naidu said that people are unwilling to continue with the profession of agriculture due to poor financial support. He expressed his concern by saying, "A doctor wants to make his child a doctor, actors want to make his child an actor, but a farmer does not want to make his child a farmer. Everyone is started to leave farming and going for jobs in different sectors."
The condition of agriculture in India is getting worse, he added.
However, the three-day expo is being organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in Hyderabad' s Madapur where 200 stalls were set up from different Asian countries including India.
In this event, Telangana Minister Talasani and Andhra Pradesh Minister Mopidevi were also presented along with other MPs.
