India facilitates return of Nepali migrant workers

Thousands of Nepali migrant workers, who were stranded in India for over a month, have been sent back home. They were happy while boarding buses to Nepal and raised slogans praising Indo-Nepal relationship.

Pithoragarh: Over two thousand Nepali migrant workers, who were stranded at various places in India for over a month due to the lockdown, on Friday sent back to their country by buses, official sources said here.

While boarding the buses to home, they raised slogans in favour of good relations between the two countries.

Total 2,257 migrant workers from Nepal have been sent back to Nepal. They were sent by buses using three international rope bridges that connect the two neighbouring countries, they said, adding that 1,299 were from Jhulaghat and 958 belonged to Balakot and Dharchula towns in Nepal.

While in India, they lived in quarantine facilities. Before their departure it was announced that the returnees would maintain social distance and their health would be examined once they reach the other side.

According to the official data, the total number of coronavirus cases in Nepal remained under the mark of 60 for the past few days while 16 patients have been cured.

The Nepal government had requested India to send the worker back four day ago. The Nepali workers thanked Indian authorities for their cooperation in arranging everything to facilitate their return.
