New Delhi: Claiming that no casualty has been reported from any parts of India due to Coronavirus till date, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday said that due to the precautionary steps taken in advance, India was able to contain the outbreak of the killer disease.
Dr Vardhan said that till date 43 positive COVID-19 cases have been detected in India with four new cases in Delhi, UP, Kerala and Jammu.
"Today we are able to contain COVID-19 because we have taken precautionary measures well in advance," said Dr Vardhan.
Dr Harsh Vardhan refuted reports that a person has died in West Bengal's Murshidabad district due to Coronavirus.
"No death took place in India as of now due to COVID-19," Dr Vardhan reiterated.
Earlier, media reports suggested that a 33 years old man died in Murshidabad on Sunday due to Coronavirus. However, the deceased blood report suggested that the person was suffering from diabetes.
"On 18 January we started universal screening on 7 airports and now 30 airports have been put under screening. All passengers coming from other countries are being screened on airports. So far, 8,74,708 passengers have been screened," Vardhan told reporters at a press conference here.
"We have discussed with Delhi Government to prepare for isolation wards, quarantine facilities, availability of doctors, contact tracing and other precautions, if the cases increase," he added.
