CPI condemns Nankana attack, appeals people to maintain communal harmony

A day after, the Nankana Sahib gurudwara was attacked by an unruly mob in Pakistan, Dr Bhalchandra Khanderao Kango, senior CPI leader appeal for peace and harmony.

"We condemned the attack at Nankana Sahib gurudwara very strongly...Given the extremist influence in Pakistan and the intolerance that has been increasing for a long time, this was bound to happen, and this is common in Pakistan. Pakistan has failed to control the fundamentalists within the society, therefore such incidents are increasing," said Kango.

Central government must intervene in the matter: Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Saturday condemned the attack on Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and urged the central government to intervene in the matter to avoid any such situation in the future.

"The attack on Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Gurunanak Dev Ji, by the mob on Friday was extremely condemnable. Our country is naturally worried about this. The central government must interfere in this matter so that no such unpleasant and indecent incident happens in future," Mayawati tweeted.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday deplored the mob attack on Nankana Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan and said atrocities on Sikhs cannot be tolerated.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal termed Friday's attack as shameful and asked the Imran Khan government to take tough steps and punish the culprits.

"The attack on Nankana Sahib is a cowardly and shameful incident. Nankana Sahib is the centre of faith of crores of Sikhs. Atrocities on Sikhs living there cannot be tolerated," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Following attack on Gurudwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal slammed Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and Congress for opposing CAA.

Cricketer Harbhajan expresses concern over Gurudwara Nankana Sahib attack

Cricketer Harbhajan Singh on Saturday expressed concern over a mob attack on the revered Gurydwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to intervene.

The veteran off-spinner shared on Twitter two videos of Mohammad Hassan, who was leading the mob and threatening to build a mosque in place of the historic Sikh shrine.

"Don't know what's wrong with some people, why can't they live in peace.. Mohammad Hassan openly threatens to destroy Nankana Sahib Gurdwara and build the mosque in that place..very sad to see this," Singh tweeted on Saturday.

"God is one..let's not divide it and create hate among each other's.. let's be human first and respect each other's.. Mohammad Hassan openly threatens to destroy Nankana Sahib Gurdwara and build the mosque in that place," he wrote in another tweet tagging Pakistan Prime Minister Khan.

Condemning the attack on the Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, BJP Spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay said that Pakistan has no control over such miscreants.

"This incident is very painful. The Pakistani government shields such miscreants. Minorities in Pakistan have always been ill-treated. Reactions on stone pelting at Nankana Sahib gurdwara

New Delhi: India condemned the vandalism carried out at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan on Friday after reports emerged that hundreds of locals pelted stones at the gurdwara and surrounded it, leaving several Sikh devotees stranded.

As per reports, the locals were apparently protesting against the Sikh community’s opposition to the alleged forcible conversion of a Sikh girl to Islam and her marriage to a Muslim boy.

The protesters were led by the family of a man who was accused of forcibly converting the Sikh woman and demanded the release of suspects, Dawn reported. 

Condemning “these wanton acts of destruction and desecration of the holy place”, India asked the Pakistan government to take strong action against the miscreants.
