Srinagar: The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) of Jammu and Kashmir has started the process of installing bio-ingesters in households of the catchment area and some houseboats in the water bodies.
The DRDO designed bio-ingesters are being installed on a pilot basis and their efficiency shall be under trial. A team of scientists from the DRDO are on a three-day visit here to ascertain the functioning of four bio-digesters which have been installed in the houseboats.

The process of installation of bio-ingesters is being directly monitored by the Committee of Experts (CoE) constituted by the J&K High Court.
Houseboats on the Dal and Nigeen lakes in Srinagar are a major attraction for tourists visiting Kashmir.
