1. Farmers leaders prepare for 'Tractor March' today
The leaders of the farmers unions demanding the repeal of the three new farm laws and the procurement of crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) are now readying for a 'Tractor March' announced by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha on the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways on Thursday.
Days after inaugurating the 351-km Khurja-Bhaupur section in the eastern arm of the mega project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a new stretch of the Dedicated Freight Corridor for commercial operations, between Haryana's Rewari and Rajasthan's Madar on January 7 at 11 am via video conferencing.
3. Temperature drop, dense fog expected in Delhi-NCR from today
Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) will experience a drop in temperature from tomorrow morning after western disturbance affecting northwest India move eastward, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Dense to very dense fog will prevail in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, northern Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR. The western disturbance that was effecting northwest India has currently moved eastward, for which the effect will be mostly over western Uttar Pradesh.
4. Chennai, 8 other districts to receive rainfall in Tamil Nadu
At least 9 districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai will likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next four hours, MeT Department Director Puviarasan said. Issuing the weather forecast at 11:15 pm, Chennai MeT Department Director Puviarasan said that satellite images show dense cloud over Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram will witness intense spell for next three to 4 hours.
5. Punjab to reopen schools from today
Punjab School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Wednesday said the state government has decided to reopen all government, semi-government and private schools from Thursday. He said the timings of the schools will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and students only from class V to XII will be allowed to attend physical classes. He said the school managements have been directed to strictly comply with the directions of the government to avert the threat of contraction of coronavirus.
