1. Meeting between protesting farmers and Centre today
Protesting farmer unions agreed "in-principle" to a government proposal for holding the next round of talks on the new agricultural laws on December 30, but insisted the agenda of the meeting should include discussing modalities for repealing the three legislations.
The farmers' acceptance of the proposal came hours after the Centre sent them a letter suggesting December 30 as the date for the dialogue, against December 29 the protesting unions wanted.
Abhimanyu Kohar, a member of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha -- an umbrella body of 40 unions protesting against the contentious legislation -- said the farmers have agreed to go for the meeting on the date proposed by the Centre.
2. Sabarimala to open for Makaravilakku today
The Sabarimala temple will open on December 30 at 5 pm for "Makaravilakku", the annual festival at the hill shrine of Sabarimala, officials said on Monday.
3. President Kovind to confer Digital India Awards 2020 today
President Ram Nath Kovind will virtually confer the Digital India Awards 2020 through video conferencing on December 30.
In line with Digital India’s vision, this is the first time that the entire process of the Digital India Awards is being conducted online from nominations to screening to the final awards ceremony.
4.Counting of votes for Karnataka gram panchayat polls today
Counting of votes for 5,728-gram panchayats in Karnataka that went for polls in two phases will take place on Wednesday. Counting will begin at 8 am.
As ballot papers were used in polls other than in Bidar district where EVMs were used, the announcement of results may get delayed, polls officials said.
