Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit three vaccine manufacturing facilities across the country to personally inspect and get information about the development of COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, the first phase of the District Development Council polls will start from today amid tight security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit pharma major Zydus Cadila's plant near Ahmedabad today to get information about the development of its COVID-19 vaccine.

From there, he is likely to visit Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), which has partnered with global pharma giant AstraZeneca and the Oxford University for a COVID-19 vaccine.

PM Modi is also expected to travel to Hyderabad and visit Bharat BioTech, which is working on Covaxin, pitched as India's first indigenous vaccine candidate.

  DDC polls to begin today

The first phase of the District Development Council polls and panchayat by-polls will start from today amid tight security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the first phase, voting will be conducted in 43 constituencies out of 280 constituencies from 7 am to 2 pm.

A total of 296 candidates are in the electoral fray including 207 male and 89 female candidates for DDC elections in Phase I polls, said State Election Commissioner KK Sharma.
