2. Bharat bandh: Farmers gear up for nationwide protest against farm bills
Several farmers' bodies have called for a Bharat Bandh on Friday, to protest against the three agri-reforms bills passed in Parliament during the Monsoon session. With both the ruling Congress and opposition AAP, as well as NDA ally SAD supportive of the farmers' agenda, the bandh is likely to be 'total' in Punjab. Several organisations in Haryana, including the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), said they had extended support to the nationwide strike called by some farmers' bodies against the bills.
3. National Medical Commission to come into force from today
The National Medical Commission (NMC), in place of the Medical Council of India (MCI), for development and regulation of all aspects of medical education and profession, has been constituted and will come into existence from Friday. With the NMC coming into being, the Board of Governors (BoG), which superseded the Medical Council of India (MCI) on September 26, 2018, to perform its functions, will get dissolved and the nearly 64-year-old Indian Medical Council Act will stand abolished.
4. Samajwadi Party to organise protests across UP against agriculture, labour bills
The Samajwadi Party will organise a protest against agriculture and labour reform bills on Friday and submit a memorandum to the Governor, Anandiben Patel through respective district magistrates. On the instructions of Samajwadi Party National President and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, the party will protest against the farm sector and labour reform bills which hurt the interest of farmers and workers. During the protests, a memorandum will be sent to the Governor through respective DMs, party chief spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury stated.
5. IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in parts of Karnataka
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall likely over Malnad regions, north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka regions on Friday. "Scattered to widespread light to moderate rains at most places likely over coastal and parts of Malnad regions. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rains likely over north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka region," said IMD.
